POSITION: MISDEMEANOR DEFENSE ATTORNEY III

SALARY RANGE: $56,594 - $91,738

Job Summary: Performs professional legal work involved in the management, evaluation, processing, and defense of criminal cases bound over to the Misdemeanor Defense Office. Provides legal representation and argument for indigent defendants in all cases in the Misdemeanor Defense Office. Represents client at all stages of the case. Performs directly related work as required. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; and Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school; and at least three (3) years as a Criminal Defense Attorney at the state or federal court level; or at least four (4) years active post bar professional legal experience in criminal defense in either State or Federal courts. License to practice law in the State of Georgia. Membership in Good Standing of the State Bar of Georgia. Comprehensive knowledge of laws and court procedures of State and Federal legislation and case law regarding criminal law and procedure. Comprehensive knowledge of Federal Rules of Evidence, State and Federal case precedence, criminal trial practice, and ethical considerations and disciplinary rules. Comprehensive knowledge of State and local violations, misdemeanors, and criminal procedures. Ability to develop persuasive opening and closing statements, including making effective use of visual aids and analogies.
Note: During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.
